Join the summit of Emerging leaders

The three days Alpbach in Motion (AIM) summit takes place from 27 August to 30 August during the European Forum Alpbach 2022 and it provides a platform to rethink leadership in the 21st century while connecting the next generation of decision-makers. Alpbach in Motion connects up to 40 committed talents from various business backgrounds – from start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises, social enterprises, and the creative industries – to impart knowledge and spark new ideas through new leadership. The future of Europe is at stake again. When the European Forum Alpbach was founded in 1945 it was young, talented people who gathered and pushed for development and renewal. Then as now, it is our, it is your responsibility to act and find bold solutions for the burning questions of today. As young and emerging leaders you have the potential to face these challenges. Reaction to unexpected events and constant personal developments are key to do so. Alpach in Motion addresses new leadership to support you on your way and thrives to integrate the common findings into the main programme of the European Forum Alpbach.

The AIM-group is led by a mentor who guides through varied and unanticipated hours. Group work sessions are enriched with inputs from renowned experts in the field of economy, the climate transition, and politics. The meaningful and exclusive exchange between the experts and the group is a key ingredient for inspiration. The challenging work of the group is interspersed by pleasant hikes through the landscape of the Alps. They will help to decelerate and invite participants to strengthen connections among each other. The programme will offer a mix of leadership training and the possibility to engage with the official European Forum Alpbach programme and its participants.

As a participant of Alpbach in Motion, you can arrive earlier in the second half of the conference week (25 to 27 August 2022) or stay until the end of the Forum during the lab week (30 August to 2 September 2022).

Programe Fees

Costs: EUR 2.500,-

  • Included: participation fee, catering during the summit, a multi-day ticket for the European Forum Alpbach, room booking service
  • Excluded: costs for travel and accommodation

Alpbach in Motion offers a very limited number of sponsored tickets for young leaders from cultural institutions, social service providers and start-ups. The candidate applying for a sponsored ticket should indicate their qualification for the ticket category as well as their unique contribution to the programme.

How to Apply

Candidate's Profile
  • Young emerging leaders between the age of 30 and 40 (date of birth 01.01.1982 – 31.12.1992)
  • Talents who show great potential for development and for actively shaping Europe’s future
  • We place great value to diversity at Forum Alpbach, so we particularly welcome applications from women and people with non-German mother tongues.
  • Fluency in English is a must
Application and Selection Procedure

The application window opens 15 March, and applications are accepted until 8 May 2022.

The following English documents must be sent in one PDF file to aim@alpbach.org by 8 May 2022:

  • Candidate’s curriculum vitae
  • Candidate’s cover letter (1 page); Founders, self-employed, or executive level candidates should indicate their level of experience in the cover letter.
  • A letter of recommendation from a senior member of the candidate’s company, a mentor (self-employed) or from a former Alpbach in Motion participant.
  • Please indicate whether you want to extend your stay and participate at the conference week (25 to 27 August 2022) or at the lab week (30 August to 2 September 2022) in addition to your participation at the AIM-summit. (Please note: It may be necessary to change hotels for the extended period.)

Selection results will be announced no later than 27 May 2022.
